What is Recreation Therapy?
Recreation Therapy
Recreational therapy, also known as therapeutic recreation, is a structured process that uses activity-based interventions to support individuals with illnesses or disabilities. This approach helps clients achieve psychological and physical health, recovery, and overall well-being.
At Courage Recreation Therapy Services, we use recreation therapy to:

-
Restore and enhance a person’s level of functioning.
-
Promote health and wellness.
-
Reduce limitations caused by illnesses or disabilities.
As defined by the American Therapeutic Recreation Association (2016):

"Recreational therapy is a treatment service designed to restore, remediate, and rehabilitate a person’s level of functioning and independence in life activities, to promote health and wellness, as well as reduce or eliminate activity limitations and restrictions caused by an illness or disabling condition."
